![]() ![]() To add onto the other answer, your cinema experience would also depend on your means and choice of venue. Thanks for the suggestion of a proper film, I'll add that to my watching list :) when they're on screen, would that actually happen? That's another question actually - cinemas in India, just how dodgy would that be for a woman by herself, and I think the film was set in like the 80s? And how loads of men would pile in and out and shout actresses names, etc. I watched a good chunk of a film called The Dirty Picture that was very entertaining. Film was sort of like Kill Bill, it opened with a pretty cool animated scene IIRC.Īh will I sound shallow if I say I'm more tempted by the over the top action :P. Saw a film then which was a pretty confusing experience - our tour guide was sat at one end of the cinema row and would occasionally pass down what was going on. Like threatening to break people's hands and stuff?Īnother thing - the police are always shown as being kinda fat, whereas the Indian citizens they interact with never are. ![]() rather old fashioned, I suppose we might say here, haha. Would you say the way that people interact with the police is accurate? ie very respectful, calling them sir, and the police being. Newton, for instance, actually does a decent job detailing the contradictions and contingencies of democracy and governance in rural, conflict-afflicted areas.Īt the very least, many producers are starting to try new things. Even in these past six years, production values have gone up a lot! You still get a lot of silly rom-coms and over-the-top action movies, but some Hindi movies are very thoughtful and very well done. I've been to India about a dozen times, with my first visit in 2013. Would absolutely recommend watching some Bollywood films, though. Quite a few cases seem to have grossly exaggerated details-I remember one wherein cops dug up a baby that'd been buried alive just moments before. But these kinds of shows do tend to have a very certain, very predictable narrative. Even my girlfriend doesn't mind Crime Patrol and Savdhan Bharat whenever they come on. So, at least in my experience, it's a popular show. They'd watch Crime Patrol almost every night-even though I couldn't understand much Hindi back then, I always had a hard time not watching. I stayed with a friend's family in Kashmir for a couple weeks.
